Day 08 – Ermelo to Volksrust via Amersfoort
After spending a wonderful afternoon and evening with our more than gracious hosts, Eugene and Susan in their home, it was a short night’s rest. Friday morning we left Ermelo later than expected and wanted to. Eugene, Susan and family was such wonderful hosts and we needed another week to talk about all our mutual interests and places we have cycled. They are working on a West Coast wild flower cycle tour, August 2017. The road from Ermelo to Volksrust via Amersfoort is in a good condition with many climbs, varying in length and grade, but fortunately the wind was in my favour and I managed to finish with an average speed of 25,3kph over the 98,49 km. My phone died on the way and went to Samsung heaven, it will not switch on or respond at all, gone to a black screen. On the road between Amersfoort and Volksrust we had a very welcome visit from a friend and former colleague, Pierre Rossouw, who completely adapted his travel plans to meet us on the way. Made it to Volksrust, loaded the bike and went to Wakkerstroom to have a hot shower and warm bed, sponsored by another friend and colleague, Cor Kruger. Thank you Cor and Wakkerstroom.
