Kruzer Krooze – North to South, day 1 Messina Popallin Ranch
Started later than planned and after a route change/correction for safety and security got under way from Messina and not Beitbridge. Nice town and roads not to bad. A few kilometers out of town turned North on the Malalas drift road and saw our first beautiful Boabab trees close up, I had to stop touch and take photos.
Tar ended and onto the gravel, first 15km not to bad, but then it went into the road from hell. Huge and extremely sandy corrugation, then the old military tar road and Limpopo river was there. River dry, some road left between potholes. Road closed with wire and gates by farmers, back to the gravel road fromantic hell.
Temperature soared to a scorching 38c, but lots of trees for stops, snacks, rest and putting everything back together. At last the road improved from the ZZ2 tomato farms and made the ride easier. Arrived at Popallin about 16h00, set up camp and that was day 1. 75,3km and 04h57 riding time. Not an easy day, but survived.
